We are so proud to have donated essential supplies for the rescued hens at Hen Harbor, California. These hens, often saved from the horrors of factory farming, deserve love, care, and compassion after enduring unimaginable cruelty and the team at Hen Harbor work tirelessly to care for them all. đ
The poultry industry is filled with horrors:
Male chicks are often killed shortly after hatching because they arenât useful for egg production, and donât grow fast enough for meat production. The methods used to euthanize them can include gassing or maceration (grinding). đŁ
Hens are often cramped in overcrowded cages with barely enough space to move, resulting in severe physical and mental trauma. They are deprived of natural behaviors including spreading their wings, foraging, or even walking.
Selective breeding has resulted in chickens, especially for broilers, being bred for rapid growth. This leads to immense health problems such as the inability to support their excessive weight causing leg deformities, difficulty standing, and other injuries. đ¤
During bird flu outbreaks, mass culling of poultry is commonly implemented to prevent the spread of disease. While gassing is the most widely used method, in some cases, large numbers of birds have been burned alive, though this practice is controversial and criticized for its inhumanity.
The overuse of antibiotics in poultry farming has contributed to the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This growing threat poses a significant global health risk as resistant infections become harder to treat, potentially endangering both animals and humans. đ
Itâs estimated that over 300 million hens in the US alone are subjected to these inhumane conditions. The efforts of those at Hen Harbor offer a glimmer of hope for the countless hens who have been given a second chance at life. Your support allows us to continue helping these amazing organizations provide the care and comfort these birds so deeply deserve.
A huge thank you to our generous donors for making this donation possible! Your kindness is changing lives â one feathered friend at a time. đ
